- December 7, 2007 "Laketran Receives National Financial Reporting Award"
Laketran has been awarded The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada. The certificate was given for Laketran's comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) for the year 2006. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
- November 15, 2007 "LAKETRAN RECOGNIZED FOR SAFE OPERATIONS EXCELLENCE"
Laketran, the regional transit authority for Lake County, Ohio has received the 2006 Safe Operation Awards Recognition (SOAR) from the Ohio Transit Risk Pool (OTRP). The award is given annually to the agency in each of three divisions with the lowest level of property and liability losses per mile. This is the second consecutive year Laketran has received this award.
- November 1, 2007 "RED HOT STOPS RECEIVES NATIONAL RECOGNITION"
Laketran received national honors at the 28th Annual AdWheels Award competition, held on October 8, 2008 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Laketran received a first place award for Red Hot Stops, a special event held in conjunction with the Red Hat Societies of Lake County on July11, 2006. The special event also took top honors in the small transit system category, winning a Grand Award.
Red Hot Stops was the largest bus familiarization event on record, teaching over 450 ladies the basics of public transit in one day, while partnering with destination stops along routes for dining, recreation and services.
- May 28, 2007 "Laketran Liberty Fares Takes the Sting Out of High Gas Prices"
Laketran’s Liberty Fares, a special summer fare of only 50 cents on Routes 1-6, begins on Tuesday, May 29. From May 29 until Labor Day, passengers of all ages can ride local Routes 1-6 for only 50 cents. Transfers between routes are free
- May 7, 2007 "Laketran Receives Distinguished Budget Award"
Laketran has received a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada.
William J. Hamilton, Laketran Controller and Stephanie Cull, Accountant/Budget Analyst were each presented with a Certificate of Recognition for Budget presentation as the person(s) primarily responsible for the budget preparation. This is Hamilton’s tenth consecutive year of receiving this prestigious recognition. Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.
- May 7, 2007 "Laketran Announces Winner of Liberty Fares Logo Contest"
John Vitale, an eighth-grader at Eastlake Middle School took top honors in Laketran’s annual Liberty Fares Logo contest. Laketran Board President, J. Terrell Dillard presented Vitale with a $250 check for his first place entry at the Board of Trustees meeting on Monday night.
The Liberty Fares program runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day on Laketran’s Local Fixed Routes 1-6.
- March 13, 2007 "Americans Take More Than 10 Billion Trips on Public Transportation for the First Time in Almost Fifty Years"
Laketran announced today that Americans took 10.1 billion trips public transportation nationwide in 2006 – the most in 49 years. Over the last decade, public transportation’s growth rate outpaced the growth rate of the population and the growth rate of the vehicle miles traveled on our nation’s highways.
In Lake County, Laketran ridership increased two per cent from 2005 to 2006 even with the agency’s first fare increase in twenty years going into effect in January 2006. In 1995, Laketran carried just over 600,000 passengers. In 2006, Laketran marked the second consecutive year of the agency carrying more than one million passengers per year.
- February 21, 2007 "Laketran Trims Dial-a-Ride Wait Time by Twenty-Five Percent"
Laketran, the regional transit authority for Lake County, Ohio has announced that effective March 1, 2007, the “window” for Dial-a-Ride passengers is being reduced by twenty-five percent. Passengers booking a ride will now have only a 30 minute pick-up window.
- February 13, 2007 "Laketran Announces Liberty Fares Logo contest"
Laketran announces a call for entries for the 2007 Liberty Fares Logo contest. The Liberty Fares Logo Contest is open to Lake County students from grades 7-12. Students must either live in Lake County or attend school in Lake County. Entries will be judged by a panel of communications professionals.
The winner will be announced at the April 23, 2007 meeting of the Laketran Board of Trustees at 5:15 pm. The artist of the winning entry will receive $250 and his/her artwork will be used in all promotional aspects of the program. Designers of the second and third place entries will receive $100 each.
- February 2, 2007 "Laketran Elects 2007 Leadership"
The Board of Trustees for Laketran, the Regional Transit Authority for Lake County, Ohio, elected new leadership for 2007 at its January meeting. J. Terrell Dillard, a trustee since August of 2001, was elected to serve as president. Kevin Malecek, appointed as trustee in 2005, was elected to serve as vice-president.
