Laketran celebrates 40 years of service to Lake County

Lake County, OH – Established on December 23, 1974, Laketran celebrated their 40th Anniversary with an event hosted by Friends of Laketran, honoring the work of key visionaries and leaders that have helped the shape the agency.  The Grand Visionary Award recipients included:

  • The 1974 Board of Lake County Commissioners: John F. Platz, Michael Coffey (posthumanously) and Robert Martin (posthumanously)
  • The Western Reserve Junior Service League
  • Lake County Commissioner Daniel P. Troy
  • Former Congressmen Dennis E. Eckart
  • Former Congressman Steven C. LaTourette

 with Leadership Awards presented to:

  • 1979-2003 Laketran General Manager, Frank Polivka
  • 2003-present Laketran General Manager, Raymond Jurkowski

Laketran also produced an anniversary video titled “40 Years Moving Forward” to showcase Laketran’s humble beginning and transformation into the family of services it provides today that include six Local Route Buses, Park-n-Ride service to Cleveland and nationally recognized, door-to-door Dial-a-Ride service for seniors and people with disabilities. 

In 2014, Laketran will serve over 780,000 riders and travel 3,335,634 miles.
