Educational Programs

Learning to use public transportation can enhance the freedom and independence of citizens of all ages. Students can take Laketran to numerous recreation sites, libraries and job sites. This not only helps them to become independent, but teaches them responsibility and environmental awareness.

For adults, access to public transit can reduce or eliminate the need for a personal automobile. This can help you save money and improve your health by walking or biking to the bus stop.

Learning to use public transit can dramatically impact a senior citizen’s ability to remain in his/her home as (s)he ages. In Northeast Ohio, thousands of seniors choose to ride on Laketran buses rather than fight the icy roads in the winter or the increased traffic in the summer.

Whatever your reason is for wanting to learn to ride Laketran’s fully accessible fleet of buses, we can design a program to meet your needs. And best of all, these programs are free of charge!

Educational Programs 4-12

Laketran’s Class Pass Program

Laketran’s Class Pass is an outreach program designed to introduce students and teachers to their transit system. By building a positive attitude toward public transportation, we teach students how to be safe and knowledgeable bus riders.

A Class Pass is an environmentally-friendly program that combines experiential educational outings with the use of transit. The program includes a short training session on public transit planning a few days prior to your trip, then allows for a classroom on-board excursion on Laketran’s local routes.

Each Class Pass can accommodate up to 15 students and chaperons. Class Pass is ideal for grades 4 through 12. It is also available to student groups for ages 10 and up. For more information or to schedule a program, contact Dale Wiechelman at (440) 350-1067 or dwiechelman@laketran.com.

Tips for Groups Riding Laketran

Day of your Laketran bus trip:

  • Arrive at your bus stop at least five minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive.
  • Wait in the area away from the curb and street.
  • Check the bus sign above the windshield to confirm you are getting on the correct bus.
  • Have your fare ready when you board.
  • Inform the driver of your final destination. Request a stop announcement if you need a reminder.
  • Assist your group in finding seats quickly. If you have to stand, hold onto the handrails.
  • Observe proper bus etiquette.
  • Watch for the bus stop where you need to exit the bus and use the pull cord to signal the driver for your stop.
