Painesville, OH – At the January 24 meeting, the Laketran Board of Trustees unanimously re-elected Kevin Malecek as Board President and John Redmond, CPA as Board Vice President for a second, one-year term for 2011. President Malecek has been a Laketran Trustees since May 2005 and Vice President Redmond has served on the Laketran Board since August 2002.
Following the roll call vote, both men said they were honored to serve the Laketran Board of Trustees for another year in the two leadership positions and thanked their colleagues for their support during these challenging times facing public transit systems all over the country.
“By making some very tough decisions early on and implementing our Financial Recovery Plan to combat the effects of the economic recession, Laketran was able to end 2010 with a positive net operating income,” commented Redmond, CPA.
Malecek also commented on Laketran’s progress stating, “By the board and staff working closely together, in 2010 Laketran was able to modernize our bus fleet and restore one hour of weeknight service for our customers, without a previously planned fare increase.”
Full restoration of weeknight and Saturday service will depend on how much state and federal aid Laketran will receive from both levels of government as they struggle to close projected deficits.
