Laketran joins state initiative Ohio Loves Transit

On February 14, 2018, Laketran will join Ohio Public Transit Association members to celebrating “Ohio Loves Transit” a statewide initiative to promote the need for public transit in Ohio. The purpose of this day is to celebrate transit and demonstrate how it is helping move Ohio forward.

Over 3 million Ohioans rely on public transportation every weekday—primarily for work trips—as they take advantage of safe, reliable transportation services. Public transportation allows mobility independence for veterans, seniors, people with disabilities, commuters, and students.

“We’re happy to join transit system across the state to bring to the attention of our communities the importance of public transportation,” shares Laketran general manager Ben Capelle. “There are thousands of people each day in Lake County that rely on Laketran to get them where they need to go.  We know our riders appreciate the service and we hope the decision makers in Columbus will recognized the importance of the work we do.”

Ohio’s 61 transit systems provide a vital link for people with disabilities and access to the community. Both urban and rural systems help ensure that persons with disabilities may remain actively involved in their communities by providing rides to work, job training programs, medical appointments, and adult day care facilities.

Employers rely on public transit as it provides safe, reliable, and affordable transportation to job sites to ensure that thousands of individuals have access to work.

While every dollar invested in public transit generates four dollars in Ohio’s economy, transit also makes it easier for consumers to shop local businesses and malls supporting the local economy.

The week of Valentine’s Day, Laketran will be out and about in the community distributing valentines to riders. And if you ride public transit on February 14th, we want to know! Use hashtags #OhioLovesTransit #LaketranLove to share photos and show public transit some love.
