Laketran launches “Rides on Demand” service with new app to provide flexible rideshare option

Lake County, OH – Laketran is excited to announce the launch of its new “Rides on Demand” service, an innovative transit option that provides customers with same-day, door-to-door transportation. This app-based service combines the reliability of Laketran’s Dial-a-Ride service with the flexibility of modern rideshare platforms, offering Lake County residents a fast, convenient way to get where they need to go — without planning days ahead.

Designed to enhance mobility options for Lake County residents, “Rides on Demand” offers individuals who need to take a last-minute trip access to transportation without the need to book days in advance. The service aims to cater to the growing demand for flexible travel options, accommodating spontaneous trips for work, errands, medical appointments, or leisure activities.

“We know it’s sometimes difficult to schedule every trip you need to take 2-12 days in advance with a traditional Dial-a-Ride reservation,” shared Laketran CEO Ben Capelle. “This new service will allow customers to book same-day trips, giving them greater flexibility and control over their travel plans.”

The service is available to the general public, but offers reduced fare for seniors, people with disabilities, and veterans similar to Laketran’s Dial-a-Ride service.

Andrew Vogt, a 25-year Laketran rider who uses a wheelchair and primarily relies on Dial-a-Ride, explained the benefit of this flexibility, “I can now pick up last-minute work shifts because I don’t have to worry about scheduling my ride days ahead. Other rideshare apps don’t have accessible vehicles to take me places when plans change or I get a last-minute invitation. Rides on Demand makes it easier for me to say yes to opportunities.”

Laketran announced the service launch on May 20 at Lake County Senior Day event at the Great Lakes Mall. Lake County Commissioners expressed their strong support for the service:

“Rides on Demand provides our residents with a modern, efficient transportation option that adapts to their schedules — not the other way around,” said Commission President Richard J. Regovich. “It’s another step forward in making our community more connected and accessible.”

Commissioner John T. Plecnik added, “Reliable same-day transportation is what our seniors and people

with disabilities deserve and it’s very exciting to see Laketran embrace the technology to bring it to Lake County. This service is another step we’re taking in Lake County to combat senior isolation and provide more opportunities for those who rely on public transit.”

Commissioner Morris W. Beverage III emphasized the broader impact, saying, “Reliable same-day transportation expands economic opportunity for everyone. This service empowers residents with independence and supports local business by helping more people reach their destinations quickly and affordably.”

Customers can download the Rides on Demand app to try the new service or call Laketran’s Customer Service at 440-354-6100 to schedule a trip.
