Lake County commissioners appointed retired Ohio Department of Transportation administrator Dale Schiavoni to serve a three-year term on the Laketran Board of Trustees.
Schiavoni, a Concord Township resident, worked for the ODOT District 12 in Garfield Heights from 1974 until he retired in 2012. He served as the district’s transportation planning and engineering administrator from July 2011 to August 2012 and served as transportation planning and programs administrator for 20 years prior to that.
At ODOT, he spent several years as the District 12 representative at Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA). In that role, he served on the Regional Transportation Investment Subcommittee and the Transportation Advisory Committee, where he analyzed, reviewed and evaluated many of Laketran’s and the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority’s projects for funding.
“I have a good feel for what the issues have been,” Schiavoni said.
He is one of three candidates who applied for the position. He replaces Ed Podojil, whose term ended May 15.
Schiavoni said he and his wife try to give back to the community and serving on the Laketran board is another way to do that.
“I think I have a good amount to offer,” he said.
Schiavoni’s term expires May 15, 2018.
“I’m looking forward to serving on the board and helping where I can,” he said. “I think it’s going to be a good opportunity.”
