A key pedestrian infrastructure project along Mentor’s industrial corridor is now complete and open, providing safer access for Laketran riders, employees, and visitors traveling along Tyler Boulevard. More than one mile of concrete sidewalk has been installed on the south side of Tyler Boulevard between Heisley Road and Hopkins Road, enhancing accessibility along Laketran’s Route 9, which was launched in 2019 to better serve the city’s manufacturing district.
This sidewalk project fills a critical gap in an area that previously lacked pedestrian infrastructure and was completed with funding support from Laketran. Construction included soil excavation, and extensive concrete work within the existing right-of-way. With the sidewalk now open, transit riders and workers no longer need to walk along the busy roadway berm to reach their destinations after exiting Laketran buses.
Tyler Boulevard serves as Mentor’s primary industrial artery, connecting ten industrial boulevards and more than 300 employers that collectively support approximately 7,500 jobs, making it the seventh-largest concentration of manufacturing companies in Ohio. The completed sidewalk improvement provides a safer, more accessible connection for all.
