Starting Monday, August 4, Laketran is launching Route 13, a brand-new Park-n-Ride commuter route designed to connect Lake County residents to one of Northeast Ohio’s most dynamic employment and cultural destinations—University Circle.

University Circle area is home to nearly 70,000 jobs, spanning healthcare, higher education, and nationally-recognized cultural institutions. As the area continues to grow, Laketran’s new Route 13 makes it easier than ever for Lake County residents to commute to work, attend college, access healthcare, or simply enjoy all that the area offers.

Route 13 will operate on weekdays with four daily departures from Laketran Park-n-Ride lots in Painesville Township, Mentor, and Wickliffe. Major destinations along the route include:

  • Louis Stokes VA Medical Center
  • Cleveland Museum of Natural History
  • Cleveland Clinic
  • Cleveland History Center
  • University Hospitals
  • Cleveland Botanical Gardens
  • Cleveland Sight Center
  • Cleveland Museum of Art
  • Case Western Reserve University
  • Museum of Contemporary Art
  • Cleveland Institute of Music
  • Severance Hall
  • Cleveland Institute of Art
  • Little Italy RTA Rapid Station

And with free fares on Park-n-Ride all August, there’s never been a better time to try it out.

With up to 70,000 jobs accessible to the new route, the University Circle area now rivals downtown Cleveland in attracting commuters from Lake County. This new service aims to better meet the needs of residents commuting to work, attending college, going to medical appointments, or visiting museums in the area.

According to an International Downtown Association study, University Circle’s employment growth has been driven primarily by the healthcare sector, which has seen a 37% increase since 2012 and now makes up 21% of Cleveland’s healthcare jobs.

“We’re excited to launch Route 13 and give our residents better access to this booming job center,” said Laketran CEO Ben Capelle. “Healthcare workers and other essential employees can’t work from home. This route helps meet their needs while making our system more efficient and sustainable.”

Regular Park-n-Ride fares are $3.75 each way, with reduced fares of $1.50 for seniors, people with disabilities, students, and veterans. But in August, all Park-n-Ride routes—including Route 13—are free to ride.
