On Friday, May 21, 2021, Laketran will be offering free rides to passengers who ride their bike to the bus stop as part of National Bike to Work Day. In an effort to encourage healthy and environmental friendly commuting options, passengers on Local Routes 1-9 and Park-n-Ride Routes 10-13 who ride their bikes to the bus stop will ride Laketran free.
“Laketran is participating in the national effort to promote alternative transportation options other than driving a car,” said Ben Capelle, Laketran CEO. “There are many benefits to biking and riding public transit. There are the obvious health benefits, but biking and riding also has an impact on local air quality and improves access throughout our region with multi-modal transportation options.”
Laketran’s Rack-n-Roll program carries over 5,000 bicycles a year. All buses operated on Local Routes 1-9 and Park-n-Ride Routes 10-13 are equipped with two on-board bike racks for riders to secure their bikes before boarding. Laketran Park-n-Ride lots also have bike racks for riders to lock their bikes if they prefer not to take their bike with them downtown.
Later this year, Laketran will be deploying new transit buses for its fixed route fleet that will be able to hold three bikes on their onboard bike racks. Customers can expect those on the road later this summer.
