Voters sent a strong message of support to Laketran, as they went to the ballot box and supported the one-quarter of 1 percent sales tax levy to sustain Laketran’s door-to-door Dial-a-Ride service and improve transit services to key job corridors. Final, unofficial results from the Lake County Board of Elections, show the issue passed 29,907 to 21,523 with 58.15% percent of the vote.
“We are humbled and grateful by the enormous support our community gave to this issue,” said Ben Capelle, Laketran CEO. “We work hard to earn the trust of our community in both our service delivery and use of the taxpayers’ dollars and with these new funds we will be able to meet the growing needs of our residents and businesses here in Lake County.”
“On behalf of the of the board, employees and riders of our system, thank you so much to the Lake County community for its support of Issue 2,” expressed board president Brian Falkowski. “The passage of this ballot issue and the funds it will generate are extremely important to our ability to provide for our passengers.”
“We will continue to focus extensively on the needs of seniors and people with disabilities,” promised Falkowski on the use of the new funds. “And as always, be fiscally prudent while maintaining the service the community has always expected of us.”
