Laketran seeks public input on new route serving Tyler Boulevard, Mentor High School, Mentor-on-the-Lake and Mentor Headlands

Lake County, OH – Laketran is hosting a series of public hearings to gain public input on a new fixed route bus line that would serve Tyler Boulevard, Mentor-on-the-Lake, Mentor Headlands, and parts of Center Street and Heisley Road as well as connect to Great Lakes Mall and Lakeland Community College.

The new route, made possible by the passage of Laketran’s sales tax levy last November, will provide access for 36,000 residents and to 27,000 jobs.

“This is an ambitious route that aims to address many of top service requests we receive which is route service to Tyler Boulevard, Mentor Headlands and Mentor-on-the-Lake,” explained Laketran CEO Ben Capelle. “Route 8 will improve access to manufacturing and retail jobs, shopping, and education. But first we want feedback from residents about how they envision this route to best serve them.”

The Route 8 public hearing schedule is:

  • Thursday, February 20 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Mentor Headlands Community Center
  • Wednesday, March 4 from 6 p.m. to 7p.m. at Mentor Civic Center – 2nd Floor Conference Room
  • Tuesday, March 10 from 6 p.m. to 7p.m at Mentor-on-the-Lake Community Room

Laketran will also be presenting options for a potential Route 3 modification to improve transit access to north end of Lost Nation Road in Willoughby.

The meetings will be an open house format and the public is encouraged to come anytime within the hour. The public will view and rank preferences on route designs.

Laketran is providing free Dial-a-Ride transportation to all meetings. Dial-a-Ride reservations are required 2-12 days in advance by calling 440-354-6100.

Details outlining the route designs are available at along with a community feedback survey for those who cannot attend the public meetings.

The public has until Tuesday, March 24 to provide written comment on the new route to or by mail to Laketran, 555 Lakeshore Blvd., Painesville Twp., OH 44077.

Route options will also be on display for comment and review at the Great Lakes Mall Home & Lifestyle Event on Saturday, March 7, 2020 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Laketran display.
