Laketran & Geauga Transit honor veterans with free rides on all transit services

Lake & Geauga County, OH — To honor and show appreciation for those who have served our country, Laketran and Geauga Transit will provide free public transportation for all U.S. military veterans from Sunday, November 9 through Saturday, November 15.

Laketran customers riding Local Routes and Park-n-Ride simply need to inform their driver that they are a veteran when they board the bus to receive a free ride.

When scheduling trips on Laketran Dial-a-Ride or Rides on Demand or taking Geauga Transit, veterans just need to let the agency know their veteran status when making their reservation.

Laketran offers this free week of transportation in addition to the year-round reduced fare discount available to Lake County veterans through the agency’s Reduced Fare program.

“Laketran is proud to support the men and women who have served our nation,” shared Laketran CEO Ben Capelle. “Providing free rides during Veterans Week is one small way we can express our gratitude and help make it easier for veterans to get where they need to go — whether that’s to work, medical care, or visiting family and friends. It’s an honor to serve those who have served us.”

This year also marks 30 years, Laketran has partnered with the Lake County Veterans Service Commission and Lake County Commissioners to operate a dedicated Veterans Medical Transportation program. This service provides free, door-to-door Dial-a-Ride transportation for Lake County veterans and their spouses to the county’s VA Outpatient Clinic, Veterans Service Commission office, and the Louis Stokes VA Medical Center in University Circle.

The Veterans Medical Transportation program also subsidizes fares for veterans traveling on Dial-a-Ride to medical or adult day care appointment within Lake County or to major hospitals in University Circle.
