Now Hiring Mechanic I and Mechanic II —  Four Openings

$2,000 Signing Bonus for Mechanics!

Our Mechanics diagnose and repair Laketran’s 155 fleet vehicles including motor coaches, medium/heavy diesel buses and trucks, unleaded and propane vans, and automobiles.

Mechanic I performs preventative maintenance and mechanical repairs on medium/heavy diesel, gas, and propane vehicles including brakes, lube, fluid and filter changes, cooling system flush/fill, wheel bearing pack, replacing lights, complete battery service, ignition parts, exhaust components, mirrors, wheelchair securement components, replace latches and switches, tire change/repair/rotate, remove and replace belts, pulleys, alternators, radiators, inspects and replaces hoses, caps, valves, etc.  Assists Mechanic 2 in overhaul, rebuild, and replacement of complex assemblies and components.  Must have your own tools.  Mechanic I starting pay is $19.13/hour with raises every six months.  In 3 years, you’ll earn a minimum $25.10/hour with guaranteed annual increases. ASE Transit Bus Certifications (H Series) earns you an extra $1.00/hour.

Mechanic I required minimum education and experience:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum three years of hands-on work experience across a broad spectrum of preventative vehicle maintenance and repair including removal/replacement of engine and cooling systems components, belts & pulleys, fluid & filter changes, tire repair/rotation, brakes, flush/fill cooling systems, exhaust systems, minor steering and suspension systems repair, or an equivalent combination of formal automotive training and hands-on experience sufficient to successfully perform the duties of the job.

Mechanic II diagnoses defects and performs moderately complex diagnosis and repairs on medium/heavy diesel, gas, and propane vehicle engines, air brake and air ride systems, air motors and air controls, steering, suspension, HVAC, transmissions, hydraulic systems, compressors, 24-volt electrical systems, wheelchair lifts.  Instructs Mechanic 1 in overhaul, rebuild, and replacement of complex assemblies and components.  Must have your own tools.  Mechanic 2 starting pay is $24.70/hour with raises every six months.  In 3 years, you’ll earn $31.15/hour with guaranteed annual increases.  ASE Transit Bus Certifications (H Series) earns you an extra $1.00/hour.

Mechanic II required minimum education and experience:

  • High school diploma or GED;
  • Completion of an accredited two year training program at a community college or technical school leading to an associate degree in automotive technology or auto repair plus three years of on-the-job experience performing heavy vehicle diagnostics and repair; or,
  • Five years of hands-on work experience sufficient to successfully perform complex diagnostics and repair of medium/heavy diesel and gas vehicles, including engines, air brake and air ride systems, steering, suspension, HVAC, transmissions, hydraulic systems, transmission, 24-volt electrical systems and components, air motors, air controls, compressors, vehicle computer systems.

Both positions may require working second or third shift and/or Saturday.   A solid work record of reliable attendance and quality job performance is required. Valid Ohio driver’s license required (CDL a plus) and you must be able to pass DOT physical and drug screen.  

Safety-Sensitive Position
These positions are deemed “safety-sensitive” by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).  Team members operating in this position must submit to random drug and alcohol testing throughout the course of employment.

Now Hiring Dial-a-Ride Drivers – Start July 26th

Laketran offers a starting wage of $16.05/hour with raises every 6 months.  After 3 years, you’ll earn a minimum $21.05/hour.  A Commercial Driver License (CDL) is not required. 

 Where else can you work part-time making this much money?

  • 3 or 4-day work week, 18-24 hours per week (no Sundays or overnight)
  • 6 weeks paid training 
  • Paid vacation, paid sick time, uniforms provided, and cash shoe allowance

Successful candidates have excellent attendance, a strong commitment to customer service, and stable work history.  

6-hour shifts, 3 or 4 days per week, which could include evenings, Saturdays but no Sundays or overnight so flexibility in your available work hours is essential. Reliable, dependable attendance is an essential function of this job; commitment to the work schedule is vital. Department of Transportation (DOT) physical and drug screen, background check, and Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles license check are required.
