Human Resources Generalist

This high-level Human Resources Generalist role works in the following functional HR areas: the employment process and onboarding; employee relations in a Union environment; Workers Compensation administration; FMLA administration; HRIS recordkeeping, filing, and reporting; benefits administration support; organizing and presenting various trainings; providing administrative support to Operations as needed.

Essential Functions

  • Actively involved in the employment process, including recruiting, phone screens, creating internal/external job postings, evaluating applicants and candidates, interviewing, onboarding, background screening, new employee processing, orientation, new hire training, drafting correspondence.
  • Assists the Director of Human Resources with Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation (BWC) administration including transitional duty, claims management, MCO/TPA coordination.
  • Manages all aspects of FMLA tracking; absences, usage, FMLA balances; prepares and delivers employee FMLA correspondence.
  • Makes decisions based on a solid understanding and interpretation of the Union Contract and alignment with the Employee Handbook.
  • Coordinates health, life, disability, and ancillary insurance enrollments and communicates enrollments and cancellations with Finance, service providers, and brokers.
  • Heavy data entry including wage and status changes, step increases, benefit selections, seniority lists, completed training, disciplinary actions, rewards and recognition, etc.
  • Acts as a confidential source of information for employees in various HR-related topics such as FMLA, medical leaves and other employee concerns.

Required Minimum Education and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or Business Management with Human Resources emphasis (HRCI or SHRM certification preferred) plus minimum seven years’ progressively increasing responsible HR experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience across a broad spectrum of HR. including recruiting, interviewing, and selection; strong experience and knowledge of Workers Compensation, FMLA, and benefits administration; strong knowledge of employment and labor law; experienced delivering training and presentations; strong labor relations experience, preferably in a Union environment.  Public Administration experience a plus.

  • High computer proficiency including MS Office and HRIS database programs

Now Hiring – Hostler – (Bus Cleaner/Detailer)

The Hostler (Bus Detailer) works Second Shift either Monday thru Friday 3:30–Midnight or Tuesday thru Friday 3:30–Midnight and Saturdays 1:00 P.M. to 9:30 P.M.  The Hostler prepares buses for next-day service by cleaning the interior and exterior of Laketran’s fleet of motor coaches, Dial-a-Ride buses, and high-top vans.  Laketran offers a very attractive starting wage of $15.29 per hour with significant raises every 6 months for 3 years.

Here are the essentials of the job:

  • Drives vehicles at the maintenance facility for refueling, cleaning, and repair
  • Cleans exterior of vehicle by automated bus wash machine; requires manual scrubbing where brushes do not reach, i.e. wheel rims, etc.
  • Cleans interior by manual washing, mopping, sweeping, vacuuming
  • Fuels vehicles, checks all fluid levels, and tops fluids off to the appropriate levels as needed
  • Empties fareboxes
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance on bus wash equipment.
  • Keep equipment, wash bay, supply storage, and work areas clean at all times
  • Comply with all applicable government regulations, policies, and standards, as well as all company administrative policies, procedures, and safety rules
  • Prompt, regular, reliable attendance is required
  • Contribute to the team effort by accomplishing additional tasks and assignments as needed

To qualify for Mechanic 2, you need 5 years experience in a progressively advancing role or a combination of formal training and work experience in the following areas:

  • Diagnose defects and perform repairs on fleet vehicles and mechanical equipment as necessary (i.e. brakes, steering, engine, suspension, heating, air conditioning, minor body work, electrical wiring and components, air brake system, air motors, air controls, compressors, 24-volt systems, air ride system, vehicle computer systems, electronic fare collection equipment, wheelchair lifts, multiplex, cameras, electronic destination signs, radios).

Mechanic 1 pay is $37,564 and tops out at $46,342 with the same great benefits as Mechanic II’s.

To qualify for Mechanic 1, you need minimum 2 years experience in a progressively advancing role or a combination of formal training and work experience in the following areas:

  • Performs scheduled preventative maintenance including chassis lube, oil and filter changes, gearbox fill or drain and flush, wheel bearing pack, air cleaner service, brake jobs, replace lights, mirrors, glass, wipers, tires, etc.
  • Performs routine mechanical repairs including replacing lights, complete battery service, ignition parts, exhaust components, mirrors, wheelchair securement components, latches and switches, and tire repairs.
